Before and after abdominoplasty with diastasis recti repair and liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, pubic region and upper inner thighs in a 49-year-old woman.

After pregnancy, she had completely lost the natural tone of her abdominal core muscles due to rectus diastasis - permanent separation of the abdominal muscles away from one another when they stretch apart during pregnancies. She was scared to do core exercises as her abdominal wall bulged outward and made her feel core unstable.

An abdominoplasty removed excess lower abdominal skin, repaired her muscles back together in the midline, and redraped her tummy skin snugly downward. Her belly button was brought out through a new skin opening, and liposuction permanently removed one liter of excess fat to complement her procedure.

Follow up photos are shown 2 years after surgery. She feels “like herself again” and is easily able to exercise and work out her core, without the former feeling of instability and weakness.
