Before and after liposuction of the neck in a 47-year-old woman. She had always had a little “baby fat” under her chin, but she noticed that her jawline was less defined. She didn’t need a full neck lift, but was an appropriate candidate for liposuction of the region under the chin, called the submental region.
We offer this procedure to patients awake, under local anesthesia with inhaled laughing gas and an oral anti-anxiety medication. After surgery, we recommend our patients wear a compressive chin strap for around two weeks to help reduce the initial swelling and bruising and to encourage the neck skin to contract quickly to its new form.
By one month, patients feel comfortable showing their full neck in front of others, as bruising is completely resolved and the final result is usually evident by three months. Follow up photos are shown 4 years after surgery, with a stable long-term result.
