Before and after bilateral “secondary” (redo) breast reduction with liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 63-year-old woman who previously had a breast reductions over 25 years previously. Since that time, she had gone through menopause and her breasts had increased in size again. She wanted to have smaller, perkier breasts that felt “more like her”.

At the same time as her breast reduction, which removed three quarters of a pound of excess breast tissue from each side, she also underwent liposuction of the armpits and bra rolls, abdomen, anterior flanks and arms. Four and a half liters of fat were removed through several tiny incisions hidden in skin creases, whenever possible.

Her nipples and areolas had slow healing postoperatively, which is quite common with secondary breast reduction surgery. Her breasts healed at their own rate with time and topical wound care treatments. The pigment of the right areola was slightly reduced upon full healing. The appearance of depigmented areolas can be improved after full scar maturation by paramedical tattoo, which fills in missing pigment and helps conceal areola scars.

Follow up photos are shown 16 months after surgery, with mature scars, and her final results. She is thrilled and has finally moved on with her life! The areola color does not bother her, but she has our paramedical tattoo artist contact’s information, should she decide to pursue areola tattoo in the future.
