Before and after ultrasound-assisted liposuction of the body in a 36-year-old man. He had struggled with his weight and despite losing a significant number of pounds in the preceding year, he still had stubborn fat in his midsection.
Fat in men is traditionally firmer and more fibrous than in women – thus, additional ultrasound energy is required to physically break up the surrounding fibrous tissue between the fat cells for effective removal.
Ultrasonic liposuction was performed on his upper and lower abdomen, circumferential flanks (“love handles” – what a misnomer!) and pubic region. Nearly five liters of fat were removed through several 3 mm incisions hidden in skin creases wherever possible.
After surgery, he wore compression garments under his clothes for two months. He continued to exercise once his bruises were all gone and remained committed to a healthy lifestyle. Follow up photos are shown 2 years after surgery, with a significantly improved body contour.
