Before and after male abdominoplasty and ultrasound-assisted liposuction of the body in a 50-year-old man.  He acknowledge that he had entered “MAN-opause,” where he gained weight and stored excess fat despite leading a healthy lifestyle and exercising twice a week.

He had a combination of subcutaneous fat under his skin but outside the abdominal cavity – this fat is accessible to be removed using liposuction – and internal (visceral) fat, which can only be reduced through lifestyle changes and/or weight loss surgery or medications.

Fat deposits (lipodystrophy) in men traditionally tends to be firmer and more fibrous than in women.  Therefore, ultrasound energy is required to help break up the firm, fibrous bands that surround fatty deposits in men.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction removed over eight liters of fat from his chest, upper and lower abdomen, pubic region, circumferential flanks and lower back.  After surgery, he wore compression under his clothes for a full two months to help his body reabsorb edema (surgical swelling) more quickly.

Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery.  He still has a significant amount of visceral (internal fat, around the organs of the body) that liposuction cannot remove.  A GLP-1 medication may help him further improve his abdominal contour going forward.
