Before and after liposuction of the neck in a 36 year old woman. Like many people, she was a victim of “The COVID 19” (pounds, that is = weight gain) from working at home for two years with her gym closed for a year and no more walking to work and around her office like she used to. Add to that video meetings on Zoom every day, and she could no longer stand to look at her neck!

At the same time that she started working toward an increased level of physical fitness, she sought a “boost” to her motivation and wanted to address the one area that no matter how thin or fit she was in the past, she still had a stubborn collection of fat in her “submental region” (under the chin).

Liposuction of the chin/neck region was done as a simple outpatient procedure under local anesthetic with a laughing gas-oxygen mixture she breathed in during the numbing injection. Nearly a half cup of fat (120 cc) was removed via two tiny incisions hidden under her jawline. Extra strength Tylenol was all her she needed for postoperative discomfort, and the anti-anxiety mediation prescribed by our office took the edge off jitters before surgery and helped her sleep the first night after her procedure.

She took one week off work completely and wore a compressive chin strap afterwards for two weeks as much as she could. Follow up photos are shown just 10 weeks after surgery. Her neckline contour is already improved, and the firm swelling called edema under her chin is starting to soften. She feels motivated to keep moving and get healthy, now that others are noticing how great she looks!
