Before and after bilateral breast reduction revision in a 17-year-old woman. She had undergone a breast reduction one year previously and experienced delayed healing under her breasts in the inframammary fold region. Her scars had consequently stretched, resulting in a high position of her nipples and areolas, a condition that Plastic Surgeons refer to as “bottoming out”.
This condition can be easily corrected or improved via scar revision in the office under local anesthesia. Excess skin and stretched scar is removed after injecting numbing medication, and the inframammary incisions are redone with new longer-acting dissolving stitches.
This procedure was performed on a holiday break from high school so that she had a full two weeks to recover before returning to classes. Follow up photos are shown 1 years after surgery.
