Before and after bilateral breast revision in a 61 year old woman. She was treated for breast cancer in her home state across the country. She had submuscular implants, severely hypertrophic scars and an animation deformity which was so distressing she stopped exercising and wearing scoop neck tops. She knew the problem was that her implants were under her muscles but could not find a local surgeon who was willing to convert her breast reconstructions to on top of the muscle. So she travelled to San Francisco!

In advance of her consultation she sent photographs and a video confidentially to our office, showing us her concerns. A plan was tentatively made, and she traveled to see us for a formal consultation and preoperative planning session before she returned for surgery.

At surgery, her old hypertrophic scars were removed, her pectoralis major muscles were returned to the chest wall, and new cohesive silicone gel breast implants were placed on top of the muscle, in the “prepectoral position”. Her animation deformity (or “party trick” as we call it) vanished immediately, as can be seen in her before and after photos.

She stayed in the Bay Area for a month after surgery and followed up with us at one month, three months and one year after surgery. Follow up photos are shown at one year. She is much more comfortable and has resumed exercise. Her breasts look NATURAL. Her scars are improved and she is so happy to be able to move forward after facing and fighting breast cancer!
