Before and after bilateral breast revision in a 58 year old breast cancer survivor.  She was previously treated for left breast cancer with a lumpectomy and radiation.  The left saline implants had contracted, sitting high up on her chest in a non-anatomic position.  Her right implant had deflated.

She wanted better symmetry and less of a reminder of “I’ve had breast cancer” every time she looked in the mirror.  She was so happy to learn that her breast revision surgery would be covered under her insurance plan.

Not only is a mastectomy or lumpectomy and the initial reconstruction surgery covered, but any medically necessary (as deemed by the surgeon) revision in the future is also covered.  This is a legal right for women!

Both of the old saline implants were removed, excess scar tissue was removed by capsulectomy, and new highly cohesive silicone gel breast implants were placed on top of the muscle.  Her old scars were revised and her nipples and areolas lifted.

Due to the past radiation, it took several months for the left radiated side to soften and heal.  She began scar therapy when all her wounds had closed, and continued it for 9 months.  Follow up photos are shown at one year after surgery.

She has greatly improved symmetry and “no longer feels like a cancer patient” each time she dresses or undresses!  That is the goal of breast reconstruction – to create symmetry, balance, and to help women move forward after treatment.
