Before and after bilateral implant reconstruction via breast augmentation and nipple reduction and liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 45-year-old breast cancer survivor. Following a large left lumpectomy, she had an indented and stiff left breast and obvious asymmetry between the breasts.
Her reconstruction involved placement of smooth round silicone gel breast implants bilaterally on top of the muscle, in the prepectoral/subglandular position. The old left lumpectomy defect was reopened, and constricting scar bands were released. The implant filled out the missing tissue and created a more normal and round shape to the breast.
Her goal was to be reconstructed larger than her current bra cup size, similar to when she was nursing her babies. She was also sick of her overly large and pendulous nipples. She requested to have them removed and to just keep her areolar circles. Liposuction removed excess fat from her armpits and bra rolls.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery. We have achieved her goal, she is very satisfied with her results, and she no longer has a daily reminder about her breast cancer – or needs to hide her nipples in a heavily padded bra.
