Before and after bilateral explantation in a 46-year-old woman. She was tired of having breast implants and feeling “top heavy.” She wanted to avoid a major surgery and drains, and was so relieved to learn that we perform explanation awake, under local anesthesia.
Removal of the capsule is only necessary for cases of breast cancer, severely ruptured breast implants or if leaving it in place would cause major deformity. In the vast majority of cases, simple explantation using an incision hidden under the breast is appropriate.
Follow up photos are shown 2 weeks after surgery. Over the next several months, her breasts will continue to contract and assume their pre-augmentation form.
