Before and after left delayed DIEP flap breast reconstruction in a 49 year old breast cancer survivor.  She previously had a left nipple sparing mastectomy and chemotherapy with a failed implant reconstruction.   Her implant required removal due to infection.  She waited a year before attempting another reconstruction.

While she was a candidate for a reattempt at inserting an implant, she had great tummy fat and decided on the DIEP flap.  A left delayed DIEP flap was performed, flattening her tummy and creating excellent symmetry with the other breast.

Follow up photos are shown at 2 months after surgery.  She is a candidate for free fat grafting and/or medical tattoo to round out her areola circles in the future to further improve her results, if she wishes.

However, at this point she feels “done with surgery”, which is absolutely fine too!  There is no age limit or time limit for revision or second-stage procedures in breast reconstruction.
