Before and after left nipple sparing mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstruction in a 41 year old woman with breast cancer.

She had preoperative asymmetry of her breasts following a left lumpectomy that had positive margins. She was a candidate for implant reconstruction but she preferred to use her own tissue. She didn’t mind losing some belly fat that had accumulated after having children!

Her aesthetic goals (something we discuss in detail with EVERY patient) were to have a lift of her breasts but stay proportional to her frame, and to have better symmetry.

Her left breast was reconstructed with a DIEP flap at the same operation as her nipple sparing mastectomy, done via an incision in the fold under her breast. A balancing right mastopexy (breast lift) was done on the right side.

Follow up images are shown at 6 months after surgery. Her scars are maturing and she is actively doing scar therapy.
