Before and after bilateral DIEP flap reconstructions in a 39-year-old breast cancer survivor.  After being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 35 and having a right mastectomy and chemotherapy, she underwent genetic testing and found out she was BRCA gene positive.  She chose to have a left risk-reducing prophylactic mastectomy and bilateral breast reconstruction.

After having three children, she had more than enough lower abdominal skin and fat to reconstruct two breasts.  She was thrilled she could use her fat for breast reconstruction – and get the effect of a tummy tuck at the same time!  A left mastectomy was performed at the same time as bilateral DIEP flap reconstructions.

Follow up photos are shown 2 years after her DIEP flap reconstruction and 1 year after nipple and areola reconstruction.  She is a candidate for paramedical tattoo to further improve the cosmetic appearance of her nipples and areolas.
