Before and after breast reconstruction in a 59 year old breast cancer survivor. She had completed chemotherapy and radiation, and unfortunately was never offered breast reconstruction. She had an overabundance of lower abdominal fat and was a great candidate for the DIEP flap.

Her left breast was heavy and pendulous, and her goal was to be reconstructed smaller and more proportional than her current breast size. A right DIEP flap reconstructed her right breast, replacing much of the damaged radiated chest wall skin. Only a small portion of her abdominal fat was required; the remainder was discarded as in a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

A left balancing breast reduction and lift reduced and reshaped her left breast. 6 months later, she underwent right nipple and areola reconstruction. Follow up photos are shown 9 months after her DIEP flap. You can appreciate how amazing reconstructive microsurgery is and why the DIEP flap can create such a natural looking and feeling breast!
