Before and after right lumpectomy and reconstruction using the breast reduction and auto-augmentation mastopexy technique with liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 39-year-old woman with breast cancer.
She did not want a full mastectomy and opted for breast conservation treatment – namely, lumpectomy and radiation therapy. A combined oncologic and reconstructive procedure was scheduled with her Breast Surgeon performing the lumpectomy and taking extra margins around the tumor, together with sentinel lymph node biopsy.
At the same time, her remaining right breast tissue was rearranged and reshaped into a breast lift. A left balancing breast reduction created symmetry to the breasts. Liposuction removed excess fat from her armpits and bra rolls.
After surgery, she healed for a total of six weeks before five weeks of radiation were performed to the right chest wall. After radiation, the breast is expected to shrink approximately ten percent – this anticipated change is accounted for when performing the reconstruction.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery.
