Before and after breast reduction in a 47 year old mother of three.  She waited until after she had finished breast feeding to have her reduction surgery, although she had been waiting for this procedure for over 30 years!  She had all the expected symptoms of macromastia (heavy, pendulous breasts causing increased tension and pulling on her neck, shoulders and upper back).

A breast reduction removed nearly 4 pounds of heavy breast tissue and fat from the bottom and the sides of her breasts.  The remaining breast tissue was reshaped to a smaller, perkier yet still proportional breast contour that still fit the rest of her body.

A breast reduction involves lifting and reshaping the breast tissue to sit above the breast fold.  Compare her before and after photos to see the difference when compared to before surgery.  Liposuction of the sides of the breasts and axillary roll (back fat/bra roll) further contoured this part of the chest and upper back.

Early follow up photos are shown at just over 4 weeks after surgery.  We call this the “Frankenboob Stage”:  things often look ugly, but it is important to see what early stages of healing look like!  Her incisions are healing well and she is starting to get her sensation back.  She is almost ready to resume exercise and return to work.  She feels so much lighter, and more like herself – an energetic mother and professional woman who has a lot to do each day!

Over the next 6 months to a year, her incisions will fade as soft scars and the firm swelling at the sides of her breasts (known as edema, from the liposuction) will soften.  She can shop for new bras at around 3 months after surgery – however, bras are totally OPTIONAL and not necessary after surgery!  Many of our patients wear soft bralettes that are more comfortable than the previous underwire bras they needed to wear before their breast reduction.
