Before and after umbilicoplasty in a 51-year-old woman.  At the same time as a breast lift, this patient wanted to have a more normal looking belly button.  She had always had some degree of an “outie” navel, but post-pregnancy, it bulged outward even more and stretched in its diameter.

An umbilicoplasty corrected her belly button appearance by making an incision around the periphery of the navel, correcting the underlying rectus diastasis (separation of the abdominal muscles from pregnancy), and closing the umbilical opening in a V-to-Y fashion.  This pushed the protruding tissue back in through the muscle and fascial repair and made her navel smaller overall.

Follow up photos are shown 6 months after surgery, with a more normal looking umbilicus and maturing scars.  The redness of her incision will gradually fade with time as the blood supply recedes with further healing.
