Before and after ultrasound-assisted liposuction of the abdomen, circumferential flanks, lower back rolls, pubic region and upper inner and outer thighs in a 49-year-old woman. She did not want to have a full tummy tuck and did not have any rectus diastasis since she had not had children. Instead, her goal was to improve her midsection contour and “enter her fifties gracefully.”
Liposuction using ultrasound energy was chosen for her due to the firm, fibrous nature of her fat, particularly around her backside. Fat in the front of the body, especially in women, tends to be more soft, squishy, and easier to remove with regular liposuction. Posterior fat is tougher and more difficult to remove with standard liposuction techniques.
The ultrasound energy, delivered at the end of a specialized liposuction wand, helps to break up this stiff and stubborn fat, making removal possible in tough areas such as these. It is also usually required for the chest area of men with gynecomastia.
Via several 3-4 mm incisions, hidden in skin creases whenever possible, over six liters of fat were removed. This surgery was done in a hospital setting, which does not have volume restrictions for outpatient liposuction surgery. In our Quad A-certified outpatient operating room, we are limited to removing five liters or less at one time.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery, with mature, faded scars and a shapely, natural, feminine result.
