Before and after liposuction of the arms in a 48-year-old woman. She was planning a minor breast revision procedure under local anesthesia, and wanted to improve the contour of her upper arms as well. This patient was well known to us, and had done awake surgery once before on another body part, so she was delighted to learn that liposuction is indeed possible under local anesthesia, without the need to “go under”.

After taking an oral anti-anxiety pill and breathing inhaled laughing gas, tumescent solution was infiltrated into the upper arms area to be contoured. She described this as “intense pressure for a minute or so”, and she tolerated it well. After the numbing was injected, she felt only “movement, like pushing and pulling” during the liposuction procedure. She was grateful she did not need general anesthesia for this procedure, as she had had intense vomiting after having gynecological surgery.

Nearly two cups of fat were removed in total through several tiny incisions hidden in skin creases at her elbows and in her armpit region. After surgery, she wore compression sleeves under her clothes for six weeks.

Long-term follow up photos are shown 2 years after surgery. The hard work she has put in with her trainer is evident, as we can now see her muscle definition through her skin!
