Before and after abdominoplasty in a 30 year old man. He had previously lost over 85 pounds after gastric bypass surgery. His weight was at its lowest and he now had an empty area of hanging skin in his lower abdomen.

His abdominal muscles had been stretched apart from his past morbid obesity – similar to what happens with multiple pregnancies in women. An abdominoplasty was designed with a low and short incision, and was tailored to his male physique to keep him looking masculine. His abdominal muscles were repaired in the midline and excess skin and fat was removed.

His belly button was brought out through a new incision on his abdominal wall – similar to bringing a button out through a new button hole. Liposuction of his upper and lower abdomen, flanks and pubic region completed the procedure.

Following surgery, he wore an abdominal binder for six weeks. He resumed exercise at six weeks after surgery. His weight is slightly higher now that immediately before surgery, which is very common after weight loss surgery – a new steady-state weight is eventually achieved after an extreme low weight after the initial weight loss.

Follow up photos are shown a year and a half after surgery. His scars are still fading, which was expected because of his brown skin tone. They will fade over the next year or two, just like his previous chest scars from gynecomastia correction.
