Before and after abdominoplasty and hernia repair in a 65 year old woman. She had a very large ventral hernia that a general surgeon was planning to repair using mesh. She was not the typical candidate for an abdominoplasty; however, she wanted to improve the appearance of her abdominal wall and to remove her “pannus” (lower abdominal apron, or overhang).

A combined General Surgery and Plastic Surgery procedure removed her overhanging abdominal skin, repaired the hernia, and recontoured her abdominal wall to one that is slimmer and flatter. Liposuction of her upper and lower abdomen, flanks, lower back, pubic region and upper inner thighs completed the procedure.

Follow up photos are shown at 4 months after surgery. She still has swelling of her tissues which is evident by the marks from her clothing on her skin. With her new body contour and less overhanging skin and fat, she is now finally able to exercise. She is actively doing scar therapy and feels like a new woman!
