Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic-acid) is an injectable product unlike anything else on the market today. Sculptra® works by building your own collagen, gradually and naturally, to restore volume and minimize age-related changes in the face.
Within the deep dermis, your skin’s structure is reinforced as Sculptra® Aesthetic helps to replace lost collagen. This reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness of your shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds that has been depleted over time. The result? Sculptra® Aesthetic is different because it gradually and subtly corrects these facial wrinkles. This can provide a refined, more youthful looking appearance that can last more than two years.
The treatment for Sculptra® is different than other dermal fillers we offer at Horton SPA. Typically, two vials of Sculptra® are injected during the first treatment. Because the product is used in small amounts in multiple areas of the face, the end result is subtle and not overdone-looking. Patients are instructed to massage their face for five minutes, five times a day, for five days after their treatment. About a week after the treatment, much of the fluid injected will be reabsorbed by the body- this is normal! Your face will return to how it looked before your treatment, but this does not mean the treatment was not successful. Over the next 6-8 weeks, the collagen is stimulated in the areas treated so that the face begins to gradually look the way it did immediately after the treatment. In 6-8 weeks after your first treatment, it is time to return for your second treatment, and the same process is repeated. While this may sound like “a lot”, this is all part of the Sculptra® process! For optimal results, most people require 1 vial per decade of life to restore lost volume. For someone in their 60’s, this may require a third treatment 6-8 weeks after the second treatment. To maintain the results, we recommend coming in yearly for another treatment of 1-2 vials. Remember, Sculptra® is a gradual process that provides long-lasting, natural-looking results.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is FDA approved in the United States and has been used worldwide since 1999. Sculptra® Aesthetic is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body — and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches.
