Before and after bilateral breast reduction and lift with liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 22-year-old woman with “symptomatic macromastia” (pain, discomfort and loss of function with activities of daily living due to large, heavy and pendulous breasts). She also had congenital asymmetry of her breasts, with a size difference of about two hundred grams between the two.
She had started developing shoulder grooves already, even at such a young age. Her mother had already had a breast reduction in our practice; she felt very comfortable – even excited – to refer her daughter to us for the same surgery.
A breast reduction removed over two pounds of excess breast tissue from each breast, with 225 grams (nearly a cup) more from the left larger side. The auto-augmentation mastopexy technique lifted and reshaped her breasts into a perkier, rounder and more shapely form. Liposuction removed fat from her armpits and bra rolls. Her areola diameter was also reduced – which is a standard part of a breast reduction.
Follow up photos are shown 3 months after surgery. Thankfully, she found the recovery straightforward, never needing pain medicine stronger than Tylenol, but feeling tired for a full six weeks, as we promised she would. She is currently applying scar gel and has started exercising for the first time since puberty, without pain!
