Before and after bilateral breast reconstruction revision in a 59-year-old breast cancer survivor who previously had a bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy and left chest radiation.  Her implants pulled upwards in an unnatural and uncomfortable position on her chest due to their submuscular placement, and she experienced an ugly animation deformity whenever she engaged her pectoral muscles.

Her revision involved removal of her old implants, replacing the pectoralis major muscles to the chest wall, and reconstruction of her normal muscular anatomy.  New smooth round silicone gel breast implants were placed prepectorally, on top of the muscle.  Liposuction removed excess fat from her armpits and bra rolls – known as the axillary rolls – which provided a smoother transition from the sides of her breasts and the lateral chest.

Follow up photos are shown 7 months after surgery, with correction of her animation deformity and related aesthetic issues, simply by converting her implants to on top of the muscle.  She is now considering a lift of her nipples to move them to a more normal position on her breast.  This would require a new lollipop scar.  She is also a candidate for three-dimension nipple-areola tattoo, performed by a paramedical tattoo artist.
