Before and after bilateral breast reduction and lift with liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 38-year-old woman with significant macromastia (enlarged breasts), ptosis (breast droop) and breast asymmetry. She found it nearly impossible to zip up her scuba suit and desperately wanted to train for a marathon, but her breasts made these activities frustrating and painful.
A breast reduction removed over a pound of tissue from each side. Her remaining breast tissue was reshaped and lifted using the auto-augmentation technique. Liposuction removed excess fat from her bra rolls and armpits. After surgery, she took a full month off work and avoided lifting more than five pounds until all her wounds were completely healed (six weeks).
Follow up photos are shown 5 months postop. She is applying scar gel and has resumed full activities, including scuba diving and triathlon training! She is ecstatic with her outcome so far, despite the fact that her scars are still dark and her nerves have not completely woken up.
There is some mild hypopigmentation (lighter color) of her areolas that will gradually wake up with time. If her areolas do not fully recover their natural color, we refer patients to a local paramedical tattoo artist who expertly can add pigment back to restore color and hue.
