Before and after bilateral prophylactic mastectomies and immediate DIEP flap reconstructions in a 27-year-old woman with the BRCA gene. She had finished having her babies and wanted to have risk reduction surgery and a Mommy Makeover at the same time!

Her breasts were pendulous and large, and she was also a candidate for a breast lift. Our goal is to perform as many surgical steps at one time. In this patient’s case, her nipples were to be saved and moved to a higher location on her breast at the time of her DIEP flap reconstructions as free nipple grafts.

Skin sparing and nipple sparing mastectomies were performed at the same time as her DIEP flaps. She spent a week in the hospital and returned to normal activities at 6 weeks. Follow up photos are shown 8 months after surgery. Her scars are still pink but are maturing nicely with scar gel application and her surgical swelling is continuing to go down over time.

She achieved all three of her goals in one surgery: greatly reducing her risk of developing breast cancer, getting a flatter tummy and a breast lift (essentially a Mommy Makeover) at the same time!
