Before and after bilateral inverted nipple correction in a 29 year old woman. She had always been somewhat self-conscious about her inverted nipples. She found herself single for the first time in years, and felt like now was a good time to consider surgery on herself.

Inverted nipples are classified as Grade I (it looks like more of a “slit” on the surface of the nipple and the nipple can come out completely with touch or cold), Grade II (the nipple does not come out completely) and Grade III (the nipple is completely buried, like a deep volcano). Obviously, the more significant the degree of inversion, the most complicated and extensive the surgery to bring them out.

Inverted nipple correction is done as an in-office procedure under local anesthesia with an oral anti-anxiety medication and a patient-controlled inhaled mixture of laughing gas (nitrous oxide) and oxygen. It takes around an hour to perform, and recovery is around 2 weeks.

This patient’s inverted nipples were Grade II. Follow up photos are shown 6 weeks after surgery. Her nipples are still swollen and distorted, but she is already so pleased with the outcome!
