Before and after bilateral breast reduction and liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 17 year old young woman. She had chronic pain, pulling, tension and strain of her neck, back and shoulders. She was unable to exercise without discomfort and found shopping for clothes an embarrassing experience as she could not easily clothes tops with buttons without them gaping.

With her parents’ consent, a breast reduction was planned following clearance from her Pediatrician. Excess skin, fat and heavy breast tissue was removed from the bottom and the sides of her breasts. The remaining breast tissue was moved into a pocket higher up on the chest wall – similar to what happens in a breast augmentation. However, in the “auto-augmentation” technique of breast reduction and lifts, the pocket is filled with the patient’s own breast tissue rather than an implant.

A robust connection was maintained between the remaining breast tissue and the nipple, including blood vessels, sensory nerves and milk ducts, to best preserve the future ability for breastfeeding and erogenous sensation. Liposuction removed excess fat from her armpit region and bra roll, known as the axillary rolls.

Follow up photos are shown seven months after surgery. She is actively doing scar therapy and found prom dress shopping actually fun!
