Before and after breast reconstruction in a 58 year old woman with left breast cancer. This patient was a breast cancer survivor, healing slowly after a lumpectomy and radiation therapy. She tragically was never offered breast reconstruction! Her left breast was deformed and indented, and her right breast was significantly larger and more pendulous.
Her reconstruction involved rearrangement of her remaining left sided breast tissue to achieve a reshaping and lift. This is called breast reconstruction "other method" by insurance (local tissue rearrangement), or by the breast reduction or mastopexy technique. A balancing breast reduction on the right side balanced out her breast size. She declined liposuction of the axillary rolls, which would have made her results even more aesthetically pleasing.
Follow up photos are shown six months after surgery. The results speak for themselves! She will still be a candidate for further contouring of the sides of her breasts, even years later, in the office under local anesthesia, should she change her mind about this final last aesthetic option for her reconstruction.
