Before and after correction of a severe tubular breast condition in a 42 year old woman.  Since puberty, she had disliked the shape and size of her breasts, which she felt were “ugly” and out of proportion to her curvy frame.  She also disliked her armpit fat and “just wanted to look normal”.

Her breasts had all the featured of a tubular breast:  a small breast size, high inframammary fold, enlarged areolas, and drooping of her nipples so significantly that they pointed to the floor (known as “Grade III ptosis”).

She was looking for a more normal and youthful shape rather than a particular size, which is very common in women with tubular breasts.  They just want to feel more comfortable nude in front of others and for their breasts to be a body part they are proud of.

Smooth round silicone gel breast implants were placed subglandularly, on top of the muscle, to fill out the lower pole of her breast and to increase the breasts’ width and volume.  Her breast fold was lowered to allow for the breast to sit lower on the chest in a more normal position.

A breast lift (mastopexy) lifted the position of her nipples on her breast and decreased the diameter of her areolas.  Liposuction of the axillary rolls completed the procedure for a complete “makeover” of her chest.

Follow up photos are shown 6 months after surgery.  She has naturally dark skin and tends to “hyperpigment” (heal with a darker color) in areas of swelling or bruising.  She still has some darker skin areas that will continue to fade over the next 6-12 months.

She is very happy with her breasts and is amazed when she reviews her preoperative photos.  Like many women after they have breast surgery, she says “Why did I wait so long?”!
