Before and after abdominoplasty in a 38 year old woman. As part of a Mommy Makeover that included a breast augmentation, lift and liposuction, she desperately wanted to improve the contour, appearance of function of her abdomen.
Her stretch marks extended above her belly button onto the upper abdomen and over her hips and upper thighs. Only the stretch marks that lie between the navel above and the pubic hair below can be removed during a tummy tuck. Her old appendix surgery scar was indented and accentuated the unsightly appearance of her abdomen.
An abdominoplasty removed excess skin and fat and stretch marks that occurred in this tissue. Her abdominal muscles were repaired back together in the midline. Her abdominal wall skin was stretched downwards tightly, and the belly button was brought out through a new skin opening, like bringing a button through a button hole.
Liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, pubic area and upper inner thighs completed the procedure. Long term follow up photos are shown 4 years after surgery. Her scars are mature. Any remaining stretch marks cannot be removed, but their appearance can be lessen with spray tanning and increased muscle tone beneath.
