Before and after Mommy Makeover in a 55 year old mother of four. She had thought about a breast reduction from the time before she had children, and when she looked in the mirror she no longer recognized the stomach with loose skin and extra fat that now belonged to her!

Her Mommy Makeover includes a breast reduction and lift, tummy tuck and liposuction of the axillary rolls (back fat/bra roll), abdomen, flanks, pubic region and upper inner thighs. She wanted her body back but still wanted to feel like herself – which is always our goal in Plastic Surgery!

A breast reduction removed heavy excess breast tissue from the bottom and sides of her breasts. Her remaining breast tissue was reshaped and rearranged to sit higher on her chest and for all of the breast tissue to lie above her breast fold. An implant is only necessary if the desired breast volume is larger than the amount of breast tissue that is available to be reshaped, or if a less natural upper pole is the goal.

An abdominoplasty removed excess lower abdominal skin and fat, repaired her rectus abdominis muscles back together in the midline, and redraped her tummy skin tightly downward. Her belly button went from a horizontal slit to a cute little “innie”! Her abdominal contour is already flat, despite residual swelling; this will only get even nicer with time as swelling continues to go away.

In my practice, liposuction is added to nearly every cosmetic procedure to optimize the final aesthetic outcome. Fat was permanently removed from her armpits and sides of her breasts, upper and lower abdomen, flanks (love handles), mons pubis and upper inner thighs. This fat will never, ever “come back”, as we are only born with a certain number of fat cells and once they are removed, they’re gone forever!

Follow up photos are shown at 3 months after surgery. She has firm and somewhat darker swelling, known as edema, in all liposuction areas. This will continue to soften over the next several months. Her incisions are pink, as expected for early on in her healing. She has started scar therapy and is thrilled with her early results! Over the next 6 to 9 months, her skin will continue to contract as swelling resolves further and her scars will fade to barely imperceptible lines.
