Before and after liposuction of the arms in a 49 year old woman. As part of her Mommy Makeover surgery, she wanted to remove some excess stubborn fat from her upper arms. She was fit and active, but when she wore sleeveless shirts, she felt her arms did not reflect this!

Liposuction removed nearly a half liter of fat from each arm. Postoperatively, she wore a compression garment for 8 weeks that helped to limit her swelling and bruising and encouraged her arm skin to contract more quickly. Early follow up photos are shown 4 months after surgery.

Upper arm skin shows ugly streaks of swelling called edema longer than other areas of the body – the reason for this is that the subcutaneous layer of fat is extremely thinner than the abdomen and flanks, where firm swelling is felt more as firm, immobile tissue congestion with fluid. It will take up to a full year for all the swelling in her arms to resolve. She is very happy with her results already!
