Before and after labiaplasty surgery in a 38 year old woman. As part of her Mommy Makeover, she wanted to rejuvenate this part of her body. Her labia minora had become more darkly pigmented after having children and breast feeding – this is a common occurrence due to hormone changes in the brain.

The parent hormone (ACTH) that causes production of prolactin (for lactation) also causes increased production of melanin, the skin pigment stimulatory hormone. In many women, the labia majora, labia minora and nipples remain darker after having children.

A labiaplasty trimmed excess pigmented labia minora tissue but left behind the delicate pinker colored and smoother surfaced upper labia mucosa, which is important for lubrication and prevention of friction. Sensory nerves are left intact in a labiaplasty, with erogenous sensation and ability to achieve orgasm unchanged after surgery.

Early follow up photos are shown just 6 weeks after surgery. Swelling will continue to go down over the next 6 weeks, with final results usually evident by three months.
