Patient # 202

Before and after liposuction of the abdomen in a 45-year-old woman. She had firm, fibrous fat in her otherwise slender abdomen that was resistant to diet and exercise. For fat that feels especially firm, or if previous liposuction or other fat-reducing treatments such as cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting) have been used in the past to try to remove fat, liposuction treatment can be especially challenging.

Thankfully, we have the best treatment options for challenging firm fat like this patient’s! Either power-assisted liposuction (“PAL”) or ultrasound-assisted liposuction (“UAL”) is required to properly remove fat that is not soft and squishy. The vibrations generated by the power-assisted machine or ultrasound energy released at the end of specialized liposuction wand help to break up the firm, fibrous tissue and enable successful fat removal.

Over a liter and a half of fat was removed from under the skin for this patient’s abdomen through several tiny incisions, hidden in skin creases wherever possible. After surgery, she wore compression under her clothes for a full three months. Follow up photos are shown a year and a half after surgery.
