Before and after bilateral breast reduction and lift in a 38-year-old woman. She was very slender with a low BMI (body mass index) – her breasts were totally out of proportion to the rest of her body!

A breast reduction removed over two pounds of tissue from each breast. The remaining breast tissue was rearranged to be rounder, perkier and located higher up on her chest wall. Liposuction removed excess fat from her armpits and bra rolls.

The technique we offer patients is called the “superomedial pedicle” technique – which means the blood supply to the nipple and areola comes from the superior (from above) and medial (from the midline, by the sternum) directions.

In addition, the breast tissue is inset on the chest using the “auto-augmentation” technique. This relocates the breast footprint higher up, rather than staying low on the chest. The last set of images shows an intraoperative photo taken after the reduction and lift – you can see how much higher it is after auto-augmentation!

Follow up photos are shown 10 months after surgery. Her scars are maturing on schedule, and she is finally exercising without pain – and only one light sports bra!
