Before and after left inverted nipple repair in a 33 year old woman. Only her left nipple was affected; she wanted it to match her right side.

Inverted nipple correction is a straightforward office procedure that is performed after injection of local anesthetic. The right nipple was used as the model that we wanted to match.

An incision was made at the base of the nipple and tight constricting bands that were pulling the nipple downwards into the breast were divided. The milk ducts from the breast to the nipple surface were preserved to allow for future breast feeding.
Dissolving sutures reinforced the nipple base and helped to “evert” (bring the nipple outwards into the world) the nipple. Postoperatively, she wore a protective “donut” soft dressing splint around her nipple to protect it in her bra.

Follow up photos are shown three months after surgery. Her nipples indeed match and she no longer feels self-conscious when getting undressed.
