Before and after bilateral secondary (redo) breast reduction and lift with liposuction of the axillary rolls in a 45-year-old woman.  She previously had an attempt at a periareolar or circumareolar lift, also called a “donut mastopexy” using the Benelli technique.

This well-intentioned procedure creates an incision around the areola only in an attempt to lift the breast.  It fails most of the time, as a vertical incision is also needed to take tension off the areola.  If a lollipop scar is not created, the areola stretches and the breast ends up looking the same, only with an even larger areola.

This patient wanted a small breast reduction and a lift and reshaping of her breast.  Approximately a half pound of breast tissue was removed from each breast.  The auto-augmentation technique was used to reshape and lift the breasts.  Liposuction removed fat from her armpits and bra rolls.

Follow up photos are shown 5 months after surgery.  Her incisions are pink as expected for immature collagen, which is normally deposited at this stage of healing.  Eventually, her body will replace the immature scars with mature collagen, which is paler, flatter and less noticeable.
