Before and after liposuction of the abdomen and flanks in a 42 year old woman. She had gradually accumulated stubborn fat in her flanks (love handles, muffin top) and abdomen after having four children.

Flank fat around the back tends to be firm, fibrous and extra tough to remove! Often, ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) is necessary to successfully break up and then suction out this fat. The ultrasound energy causes the fat cell membrane to “implode” or “cavitate”, so this stubborn fat can more effectively be removed by liposuction. UAL is usually required for male chest contouring (gynecomastia), back fat, buffalo humps and posterior flanks (around the back side).

Ultrasonic liposuction removed over 4 liters of fat from this mother’s abdomen and flanks, circumferentially. Some surgeons call this “lipo-360”, meaning a three hundred and sixty degree contouring of the mid-section.

Follow up photos are shown over one year after surgery. Her waist has a much better definition and her abdomen is flat! She still has a long crescentic shape to her belly button.

In order to further tighten her skin and achieve an even firmer belly contour, an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) would be required. This patient is happy with her decision to have surgery and loves her belly!
