Before and after liposuction of the abdomen, anterior flanks and pubic region in a 50-year-old woman. At the same time as a breast reduction and liposuction of the axillary rolls, she wanted to improve the contour of her mid-section - as a birthday present to herself!

Liposuction permanently removed excess fat from her upper and lower abdomen, love handles from the front, and her mons pubis - done through 2-3 mm incisions hidden in skin creases wherever possible. After surgery, she wore postoperative compression (an abdominal binder and EPI-foam followed by shapewear) under her clothes for a full six weeks.

She resumed full exercise at six weeks after surgery. Her main surgical recovery was from her breast reduction - if she had only done liposuction, she would be cleared to exercise when the bruising was all gone, which was at three weeks postop.

Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery, with a subtle - but significant - improvement in her body contour. Liposuction is never for weight loss. Instead, it is for body contouring, as it can help to remove stubborn fat cells that persist despite hard work with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
