“Ozempic Vulva”: How Rapid Weight Loss May Affect the Vulvar Area

With the rise of GLP-1 medications like Ozempic® and Wegovy®, women are seeing dramatic changes in their bodies — some expected, and others surprising. One trending term, “Ozempic vulva,” has sparked new conversations about how rapid weight loss affects intimate anatomy. As a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon with extensive experience in labiaplasty surgery, Dr. Karen Horton has seen more patients asking about procedures such as labiaplasty to address sagging skin or changes in the vulvar area after significant weight loss.

What Does “Ozempic Vulva” Mean?

The vulva is the external part of the female genital anatomy, including the labia majora and minora, clitoris, mons pubis, and vaginal opening. With the use of GLP-1 medications, patients often experience significant and rapid fat loss. Because fatty tissue provides natural volume to areas such as the mons pubis and labia majora, sudden reduction in these fat pads can leave the tissue looser, less supported, deflated or sagging. Some women also describe changes in skin texture or dryness, which may be linked to broader nutritional or hormonal shifts that accompany rapid weight loss.

Why Rapid Weight Loss Affects This Area

Just as patients may notice facial hollowing or body contour changes after losing weight quickly, the vulvar area is not immune. Skin elasticity varies from person to person, and when the fat beneath the tissue diminishes, the skin does not always contract fully. For some women, these changes are only cosmetic, while others experience discomfort, irritation, or self-consciousness.

Options for Addressing “Ozempic Vulva”

Management depends on the degree of change and a patient’s concerns:

  • Non-surgical care such as proper hydration, moisturizers, and pelvic floor strengthening may help mild cases.
  • “Labia puffing” with dermal fillers or fat grafting can restore lost volume in the labia majora.
  • Labiaplasty offers a surgical approach to reshape or refine the labia. For women experiencing sagging skin, chafing, or asymmetry, Dr. Horton can carefully tailor the procedure to restore comfort and confidence.  This can involve the labia majora or labia minora – or both!

Final Thoughts

“Ozempic vulva” is a reminder that while GLP-1 medications can be highly effective for weight loss, rapid fat reduction can create changes in areas patients may not anticipate. For women considering options to address these intimate concerns, schedule a consultation with Dr. Karen Horton so she can help determine whether labiaplasty or other treatments may be the right choice.
